About

Michael C. Lorek was born in Cleveland, OH, and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University in 2009.  He obtained a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley in 2015, studying under Professor Kristofer S.J. Pister in the BSAC and SWARM research centers.  His graduate research work included standard-CMOS-integrated micro solar cells, low-voltage switched-capacitor DC-DC boost conversion, and non-intrusive wireless electrical submeters for plugs and panels. He completed five internships at Qualcomm, AMD, and NIST, working on MEMS and IC research teams.  Mike worked at Ares Materials in Dallas,  TX in 2016, a seed-stage startup commercializing novel materials for flexible electronics.
